DESCRIPTION
Hand drumming is one of the most effective tools for expression, empowerment, joy, and connection. It is ancient. In “soul drumming,” we improve our skills and technique while learning to play with feeling, engaging the rich cultural origins of drums, rhythms, and songs, and connecting meaningfully both with a community of fellows and our own inner resources. For this workshop, we will have the added pleasure of playing alongside the ocean.
If you are called to drumming as a personal practice, to support your work, or to make music in community but need help getting started, this workshop is for you. We will take an approach to drumming that includes meditation, skill-building exercises, world rhythms, and accompanying songs. You are invited to bring a hand drum if you have one but it is not required. You can use your body (your lap makes a great drum), a solid surface, or a container of any kind (a solid box works!). Come away with a strong foundation and the confidence to begin sharing your rhythm with the world!
