An 8-week initiation into the skill of drumming to support singing for collective healing and power
Life has inevitable sorrow, losses, and struggles, named and unnamed, for individuals and for communities. In many traditional cultures throughout the world, communal settings support the full and wholesome expression of grief. Unexpressed grief may become toxic, leading to illness, depression, addiction, even damaging and violent behavior towards oneself or others. Let us support one another in presence and compassionate witnessing. When we welcome the many faces and forms of grieving, we reweave our belonging. The sacred ritual container allows our mutual flourishing and interdependence.

In life it is necessary to grieve those things that no longer serve us in order to let them go. Grief is a common human emotion that impacts us all. It can come to us through divorce, illness, loss of dreams, conflict, death, change and so much more. Grief is an invitation to feel. It invites us to come into the body to shed light on those things that are ready to be released in order to heal. Because of this, we must have ways to move our pain. Grief needs to be regularly felt and released or it begins to smother our joy, creativity, and our ability to connect with our self and others.
Community Grief Ceremony is a safe way to learn how to lean into grieving within and among community. Communal grieving offers something that we cannot get when we grieve by ourselves. Through validation, acknowledgement and witnessing, communal grieving allows us to experience a level of healing that is deeply and profoundly freeing. Each of us has a basic human right to that genuine love, happiness and freedom.

We aim to create an integrated space rooted in understandings of our historical context and current social realities. No matter your race, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, or housing status, you are not only welcome here, you belong here. It is one of our core values to utilize song to resist societal oppression and support liberation from the inside out.
We are not perfect, but it is our intention to respect and uplift all beings, human and non-human, seen and unseen. If there is a way we can better care for you, your values, and your experience in this space, please let us know.
We hope you will bring the wholeness of who you are to this embodied experience of singing with full permission to be in movement, grief, and laughter.
This particular sing will also be an opportunity to ground out our summer season and step forward into fall. To draw more power and meaning from our gathering, come with a state reflection and soul-felt intention.
