Central Oregon Womxn’s March 2020
Statement from Organizing Committee for 2020 COWM
Freedom and justice are necessities that Black, Indigenous, Latinx, disabled and Queer womxn have fought for in this country throughout America’s history, way before 2017, when the first women’s march took place.
This year’s march centers the perspectives, experiences, values, and priorities of underrepresented womxn, because as Lilla Watson, activist, academic and artist says, our common humanity unites us in our struggles and in our achievements, our collective liberation is bound together.
We use womxn with an X, because the X represent the intersection of our lives’ multiple characteristics and circumstances that overlap and oppress womxn, especially disabled, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, queer, trans, immigrant, and non-Christian womxn.
A similar X is used in the Latinx community. Alan Pelaez Lopez, with the help of Nigerian storyteller, Kemi Bello, urges us to consider the X as a scar that exposes four wounds signified by each corner of the X: Settlement, Anti-Blackness, Femicides, and Inarticulation. They remind us that the “X” in Latinx is one of the interventions that queer, trans, feminist, Black and Indigenous Latinx subcultures have developed to begin addressing the four wounds of Latinidad and force us to see ourselves in all of our complexity, history, and to, hopefully, imagine a new future. With the use of the x in womxn, we urge us all to begin addressing these issues within womanhood, and within our US context.
By honoring the commitment to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we can dismantle bias, prejudice, and discrimination. By living according to our diverse creeds, loves, and needs, we will turn our backs on systems of oppression. Together, we are the people that will determine the legacy of what our work will symbolize in the years to come.
Celebrating our collective power, womxn, femmes and our allies will take to the streets of Redmond, Oregon on January 18, 2020 for the 4th Central Oregon Womxn’s March - Reclaiming Power!

La libertad y la justicia son necesidades por las que han luchado las mujerxs negras, indígenas, latinxs, discapacitadas y queer a lo largo de la historia de Estados Unidos, mucho antes del 2017, cuando sucedio la primera Marcha de Mujerxs.
La marcha de este año centra las perspectivas, experiencias, valores y prioridades de las mujerxs sub-representadas, porque como dice Lilla Watson, activista, académica y artista, nuestra humanidad común nos une en nuestras luchas y en nuestros logros, nuestra liberación colectiva está atada.
Usamos mujerxs con una X, porque la X representa la intersección de las múltiples características y circunstancias de nuestras vidas que se superponen y oprimen a las mujerxs, especialmente a las mujerxs discapacitadas, negras, indígenas, latinx, queer, transgénero, inmigrantes y no cristianas.
Una X similar se usa en la comunidad Latinx. Alan Peláez López, con la ayuda del narradora nigeriana, Kemi Bello, nos urge a considerar la X como una cicatriz que expone cuatro heridas representadas por cada esquina de la X: el asentamiento, la anti-negrura, los feminicidios e la inarticulación. Nos recuerdan que la "X" en Latinx es una de las intervenciones que las subculturas latinxs queer, trans, feministas, negras e indígenas han desarrollado para comenzar a abordar las cuatro heridas de la latinidad, y ha obligarnos a vernos en toda nuestra complejidad e historia; y, con suerte, imaginar un futuro nuevo. Con el uso de la x en mujerxs, urgimos a todos a comenzar a abordar estos problemas dentro de la feminidad, y dentro de nuestro contexto estadounidense.
Con honrar el compromiso de los derechos a la vida, la libertad y la búsqueda de la felicidad, podemos desarmar los prejuicios y la discriminación. Al vivir de acuerdo con nuestros diversos credos, amores y necesidades, daremos la espalda a los sistemas de opresión. Juntos, somos las personas que determinarán el legado de lo que nuestro trabajo simbolizará en los próximos años.
Celebrando nuestro poder colectivo, mujerxs, femmes y nuestros aliados tomarán las calles de Redmond, Oregon el 18 de enero de 2020 para la 4ta Marcha de las Mujerxs de Oregon Central- ¡Recuperando Poder!
